New roughing stand for high-end steels ready for industrial commissioning at Aperam Alloys in France

POMINI Long Rolling Mills designed and manufactured a new roughing stand for an Aperam Alloys' unit in Imphy, in Nièvre department of Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, France. The 2-hi housing-type roughing stand with reversing sliding configuration, inserted in an existing wire rod line, is now ready for the industrial commissioning phase. The multiple purposes of the investment included the increase of the mill productivity, the reduction of operating costs, the improvement of the product's internal metallurgy and surface quality, the improvement of operating safety.

The new roughing stand prepares an intermediate section which is then be transferred to the continuous train, where a new additional Red Ring stand reduces it to feed required by the roll pass schedule of the wire rod line.

The main scope of project was completed by a crop and emergency hot shear and a feeding pinch-roll to assist the stock bar coming from the new roughing stand and entering the new Red Ring stand. Also included were the electrical and automation systems, the workshop equipment, other accessory components, erection services and materials.
